The basics of using an off camera cord; why you’d want to and how simple they are to connect, with some examples of off-camera cord photos with and without the orbis™ ring flash. Be sure not to miss using the orbis(tm) as a small softbox featured at the end, for directional light that isn’t harsh. Thanks to Anita, the model, from issis.co.nz for her help. I’m hugely proud to announce that the orbis™ arm, that fits your orbis™ ring flash and flash to your camera for extended on-the-lens photography, has arrived and is now for sale right here at orbisflash.com, and through our global network of affiliated dealers. Click here for USA stores, and here for the rest of the globe; we split them up as there are so many of them.
And I’ve just posted a video all about the basics of shooting with an off-camera cord. More videos to come soon, including setting up Nikon’s CLS system, various shadowless hints and tips, orbis™ photographer profiles and more.

people’s opinion of this review :
The Canon 580 flash is set to 1/1 and depending on the distance you will have to adjust the f stop between 4.5 – 11 all depends on the effect as far as flash recycle time you will need to have a battery pack for the flash ($149.00) to reduce the recycle time by 5 seconds with flash on 1/1.
Can someone tell me what is the difference with the ray flash in comparison to the coco flash. The coco flash I saw on Amazon looks identical to the Ray flash the difference is the price $59.00 compared to the ray Flash of 199.00. I like to know if anyone knows the difference.
I have more trouble getting the ray flash to work for me indoors than I do outside. I get beautiful pictures outdoor. I believe the settings are good based on what I played with so far just not there yet but working on it. Do you have any suggestios?

The flash and Orbis Ring Flash are heavier than the bracket. The bracket is hollow tubing and is extremely light. The camera and lens are much heavier than everything else. I’m used to shooting with a D300 with MD-D10 grip, a 70-200 f/2.8, and SB-800 flash. This whole setup is lighter.

Orbis™ ring flash instruction video- 003g
A great video submitted by orbis(tm) ring flash flickr group member Graham Jarvis, AKA Permanent | Daylight, shooting with his orbis(tm) for a makeup test. Using a really effective yet simple home setup it just goes to show what you can do with an orbis™, some glittery fabric, creative thought and a gorgeous & willing volunteer! Read more at his blog:

The orbis™ produces a characteristic ‘ring flash’ look that you’ll recognise from high-end magazine photography. Ring flash has long been distinctive of high-end portrait and fashion photography but studio ring flash systems are bulky, fragile, expensive and hard to use. The orbis™ changes all that.
Used off-lens, to one side of your camera, the orbis™ becomes a great small soft-box, beauty dish or fill light for advanced effects.
Conceived by a full-time professional photographer, inspired by the Strobist philosophy and developed by top optical designers, the orbis™ is made from durable ABS plastic, weighs around 1lb (600g), is totally portable and works with your camera system’s TTL metering.
The ‘one-size-fits-most’ dock means that the orbis™ ringflash fits a huge range of flashes with no need for add-ons. The orbis™ works with all your camera system’s functionality and doesn’t stress the fragile hotshoe connection.
The orbis™ ringflash is great fun to use and gives passionate photographers, like you, an edge. If you’re inspired to take your photography to the next level, the orbis™ is ideal.
TTL functionality, a great price and all in a ring flash built to last.
