Question :

I need another Flash for my studio, I have Vilensky 850 (it’s made in Israel). So now I’m looking for something good..And now I need to choose from 3 companies: Profoto Compact 600 Plus or Brincolor Minicom 80 or Elinchrom Style FX 400 (but there is now riper shop for Elinchrom in Israel, If something goes wrong I’ll be in need to send to Russia- Because i’ll buy it there).. Elinchrom is the cheapest for me but I’m afraid to stack with broken flash:(.. And another option is Profoto Acute with to head 3-4 year old with new Cables and new Flashtubes for only $800 but they are old and no warranty …
I very much want the Acute system,do you think is it safe to buy it?

Answer :

If you are in ISrael, istherea Profoto distributor there? I much prefer the Acute2 to the older Acute or Acute AlFA systems. Better controls and better built.

But i don’t have money for new Acute2 :( I was thinking of taking the no warranty old acute with 2 head and maybe adding to my kit a ringflash for portraits
I suggest Strongly that you go with equipment that can be serviced in the area. Profoto is great gear but older ones suffer board contacts design problems that become tired and difficult to resolve .Elinchrom is good gear too , I like Bron & Profoto better but if it would be equipment I depend on and service is around , would go with Elinchrom
But no Elinchrom service is around:( So I think I’ll save more money and take new Profoto acute or battery version
Have you considered Hensel? very high quality Made in Germany. I just bought some and have tested them extensively and they are SPOT ON at EVERY power setting, from full (500 ws) to minimum (about 15 ws). They also have features like auto power dumping, the modeling light goes ON to indicate unit is ready to flash again, the modeling lamps are 300 watts! In short they seem to have all the features & quality, but are a bit less than Elinchrom or Prophoto. Of course, you would want to find a dealer in Israel.

Profoto has a distributor in Israel and excellent support. I own several of their generators, 2 compacts, the D4 and the AcuteB.
All bulletproof reliable and very recommended, no issues whatsoever.
if/when you do need support, which is essential with all gear, I would go with Profoto as they have the best service.
